The Ocean of Life

You are not aware of it -
yet it always has,

and always will,

shape every aspect
of your life.

The Situation

You're invited to participate in this unprecedented research project.

What you will discover, is so fundamental and impactful that it should be taught from first grade onward. The current Western scientific paradigm does not have an explanation of this phenomenon.

You cannot measure this with any scientific device.

But you can train to become aware of it.

As you become more aware of this, it can help you be more relaxed, more productive, have less friction in your relationships, and so much more.

Experience before Concepts

In Western education, we usually get our mind filled with many concepts before we have an experience.

If I tell you upfront what you'll discover, this will happen:

1. Your mind would hold a mental construct about what should happen

2. This gets in the way of direct experience without pre-conception

3. The most powerful aspect of this experiment is lost: you having your own realization of an astonishing phenomenon

4. Your chances of experiencing something that goes beyond of what I told you get limited by what I told you to expect

Requirements to Participate

If you choose to participate in this research, you will need to set aside around 3 minutes per day for 90 days.

Think of learning to play an instrument for the first time. You need to train your consciousness to move your fingers in certain ways. This requires daily repetition for a prolonged time.

It is the same with becoming aware of this phenomenon.

After 90 days, you can submit your notes, fill out a survey and get access to the theoretical framework that discusses this phenomenon.

And you can enroll in a course that helps you refine your awareness and use it to navigate life with more harmony.

The Experiment

Each day you will write down a number between -3 and +3, that represents your 'being-state'.

As your consciousness starts to grasp the subtlety of this phenomenon, you will realize how deep and complex this gets. It's about much more than a number.

Set aside 3 minutes without disruption each day.

Aim to keep it the same time each day.

If you tie it to existing events in your daily routine, it's more likely that you'll stick to it for the 90 days.

Ready?

Ok. First - relax.
Relax your muscles, breathe relaxed.

There is nothing to 'do'.

All you'll learn is to steer your attention.

For the next few minutes, let your thoughts just pass by.

For the next few minutes you definitely do not have to do anything else buy be present with yourself.

How is your mood?

How do you feel?

How is this day?

We are NOT looking for the surface turmoil of thoughts and feelings that come as a reaction to the events of this day.

We are looking for something that lies below those reactions. Something that is there before reactions appear.

Is it a 'great' day?

Is it a day where you feel like you could move mountains. Where everything works out fine, flows easily. You don't worry, you enjoy your life, you are grateful for just being here? Maybe you sing or dance for yourself and feel like everything is possible.

Stay inside. Try to feel the tuning underlying this day.

Is it a day that feels like a nightmare? Where you rather had stayed in bed, because nothing works? You feel stuck, it's all friction, no flow. You worry, you feel overwhelmed, anxious, etc.? Even before you got out of bed?

Whatever your personal benchmark for a great day is, this day gets the number +3 (plus three).

A terrible day gets the number -3 (minus three).

And of course there are many days in between these extremes of 'I'm in heaven' and 'life is a nightmare'.

Here an example of a scale:

+3 : I can move mountains, laughing, in the mood to dance and sing, help strangers, grateful to be alive, chatty, empowered, ...

+2 :

+1 :

0 : neutral day, "life is ok"

-1 :

-2 :

-3 : worried, tense, overwhelmed, anxious, nervous, ...

Don't worry about getting the numbers right.

It's just to have an orientation in the seeming storm of life.
Focus on the extremes - when you clearly have a terrible or great day. Make sure to note those.

Once you have a feeling for yourself on this day, write down this number.

I recommend a piece of paper (e.g.):

04/13: +2

04/14: 0

04/15: +1

and so on.

If you skipped a day, leave it blank.

Don't fill in something just to have a number there.

It may be very helpful to also make short notes of specific emotional, mental or bodily states. E.g. note days when you laugh a lot, or where tears come more easily, recurring emotional themes/motifs (e.g. feeling lost, abandoned), or where specific thoughts/beliefs are prominent in your mind (e.g. I'm too xyz, I'm not enough xyz).

No need to make these notes every day, just when emotions/thoughts appear that are important to you, because they strongly affect you.

You can also rate aspects of your life that are important to you, like e.g. productivity, creativity, inner peace, trust in life, etc.

Create a column on your sheet with e.g. "inner peace".

Then, as with the being-states, give a number each day, representing your inner peace, from -3 = opposite of inner peace to +3 = maximum inner peace.

The Results

Once you have made notes for 90 days, you can send them in via sharing your Google/Airtable sheet or uploading a CSV file.

I will create a report from your notes.

As your notes contain sensitive information, the upload is fully anonymous, so I cannot send you back your report.

The report will be posted on our experiment results page for the public, but only you will know which report belongs to you (because you can see the data you sent in, in the report).

Once we have a good number of reports that show this phenomenon, we will likely extend this research and work with academics to eventually write a paper about this.
